Combat Kit For Dandruff & Itchy Scalp

Itchy scalp and dandruff are the most commonly reported complaints amongst dread heads. Often people will scale back their shampooing upon starting dreadlocks and this leads to the build up of scalp sebum (oil produced by the scalp) which can cause general itch and irritation or may be contributing to dandruff.

In addition to a genetic disposition, flaky scalp often occurs as a result of various types of dermatitis. True dandruff is thought to occur as a result of sensitivity to a yeast (a type of fungus) called Malassezia Furfur that naturally exists on the scalp. This sensitivity can lead to the growth of extra skin cells that collect and flake off. Since Malassezia feed off scalp sebum, regular shampooing and the use of anti fungals will assist in controlling the population of Malassezia.

HOW TO USE:

Frequent, even daily shampooing is often recommended by the medical profession for the treatment of dandruff. This isn`t always practical with dreadlocks so we recommend you let your scalp guide you and shampoo as often as practical or when needed. Take extra care to ensure the shampoo is rinsed thoroughly and of course, allow your dreads to dry completely before tying them back.

After shampooing and once dreadlocks are dry, massage a few drops of Botanical Serum into the scalp. Botanical Serum can be applied as often as desired. It can also be used as a pre shampoo treatment by massaging a larger amount of the serum onto the scalp, leave it in for a few hours or over night before shampooing.

Each persons scalp will respond differently to treatment so in the both the case of the shampoo and Botanical Serum, let your scalp guide you, experiment with the frequency of application and find a balance that works for you.
